Restaurant QR codes: a digital menu with no app to download

September 13, 2026 · 5 min

A table QR only works if it opens in the browser, fast, with no sign-up. How to run a digital menu with no app, and why the code should point at the restaurant, not a dish.

Guests will not install an app to read the menu. If the QR asks for a download, the table asks for paper again.

The path that works is simple: send the guest to the browser. iOS opens Quick Look. Android opens Scene Viewer. Both are already on the phone.

The right QR points at the restaurant

Every table should open `/r/your-restaurant`, not a specific dish. Then you can:

  • change the daily special without reprinting a plate;
  • publish a new dish in the studio and the old QR still works;
  • measure one link, not 40 stickers.

In PratoAI the table QR is exactly that. In Metrics the restaurant copies the link and downloads the QR.

What kills adoption

  • Asking for login, email or WhatsApp before showing the dish.
  • Opening a heavy PDF.
  • Sending people to the App Store.

The demo menu opens the 3D in Safari itself. That is the bar.

How to roll it out in a week

1. Register the restaurant and publish 3 high-margin dishes. 2. Print the QR once, on a table display. 3. Have the team test it on the house iPhone and Android.

No app. No reprinting. Start here.
